Congratulations on a wonderful academic year

Exams are over and grades are posted, the residence halls are largely empty, Ring Road is quiet, and this weekend we celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of the Class of 2023.

This has been a very good year for this campus. Our national reputation is securely among the nation’s best colleges and universities for undergraduate and graduate education. Our research effort is also among the nation’s most robust. Our faculty continues to earn significant honors for their contributions to the world’s knowledge. We have moved ahead in transforming the regional healthcare delivery system with the building of UCI Health – Irvine and the buildout of the Health Sciences district on campus. Our friends and neighbors have generously demonstrated outstanding support for our mission of teaching, research, and service. And we have, thankfully, largely put the pandemic behind us.

To our graduating students: It has been our privilege to have you with us these past years. I wish you every success as you embark on the next steps in your amazing journey, and I hope you will return often to campus and continue to participate in the life of this university.

And to our returning students and our faculty and staff: I hope you have a restful, relaxing, and enjoyable summer. I look forward to seeing you on campus in the fall.
