UCI Ranks 8th Among Nation’s Public Universities

I am delighted to share with you the exciting news that UCI has just been ranked the No. 8 public university in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, tied with our sister school UC San Diego. This is the eighth year in a row we have been ranked in the top 10 of all public universities by this annual higher education review, one of the most influential and widely regarded publications of its type.

U.S. News & World Report also ranked UCI the No. 34 university, public or private, in the country. These placements were derived from more than a dozen measures of academic excellence, weighted by relevance to high-quality education, and more than 1,600 institutions of higher learning were evaluated.

In addition, UCI ranked No. 7 overall in the subcategory of social mobility, which takes into account the graduation rate of students awarded Pell Grants, and was rated the country’s 15th best college for veterans. In the rankings of undergraduate programs, UCI was 24th for computer science, 30th for business, 39th for nursing and 42nd for engineering.

In recent months, UCI has garnered great praise for our esteemed faculty research, outstanding academic programs, stellar educational outcomes and impressive public service. Most recently, Forbes magazine designated UCI No. 9 among public universities, and 30th overall, in its ranking of America’s Best Value Colleges. Earlier this year, UCI ranked #9 in Money magazine’s Best Colleges’ 2022 ranking, making it the highest-rated California university.

These plaudits confirm what we have known all along: UCI is a globally preeminent university leading the way in research, education and public service. And it is a particular point of pride that we combine being academically elite with providing meaningful access for students of all backgrounds. We are an exemplar of the best in American higher education.

Congratulations to all members of the Anteater community! These recognitions are testament to the extraordinary contributions made every day by our outstanding faculty, staff, students and supporters. I thank each of you for your participation in the life of this university. The work we do here truly matters.
