Tragic Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

To the Anteater community:

Many of us awoke yesterday to the tragic news of a horrifying mass shooting that took place at a music festival in Las Vegas. While details of what transpired are still being collected, we know now that more than 50 people have died and more than 500 have been taken to hospitals for care.

The entire UCI community is feeling the impact of this senseless act of violence, and we extend our deepest sympathy to all who are affected, including Anteaters who were present at the event and those who are caring for victims at the UC Irvine Medical Center. As a reminder, the UCI Counseling Center offers urgent care walk-in services Monday-Friday. If you are seeking additional support, please stop by or call 949-824-6457.

Please know UCI is committed to keeping our campus community safe and has emergency procedures in place for your protection.

As I said in my convocation remarks last week, the world is full of those who seek out that which divides us. Let us remain united, and let us love rather than hate.
