Natural Disaster Relief Efforts

To the Anteater community:

Once again, we are reminded of the brazen power of Mother Nature with Hurricane Maria and another deadly earthquake in Mexico. Our thoughts, prayers and sincere condolences go out to all who are affected by the severe damage and aftermath of these horrific natural disasters. Many members of our Anteater community have connections to the impacted areas, and we stand with you to offer our sympathy and support.

In the aftermath of catastrophes such as Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria and the intense earthquakes that hit Mexico, I am heartened by the spirit of goodwill within the UCI community and the collective desire to help those in distress. While it is impossible to respond to all of life’s tragedies and assist in every relief effort, below is a list of a few organizations and nonprofit groups that are aiding victims of recent calamities:

If you are a student who needs academic support during this time, please do not hesitate to connect with your dean’s office or academic counselor. If you are a faculty or staff member who needs assistance, please connect with your supervisor.

UCI is made up of a diverse community of people from around the globe. As such, I encourage you to check on your fellow Anteaters to make sure they have support if they are personally affected. We are strongest when we approach each other with compassion, understanding and an eagerness to uplift one another.
