UCI Among Top Universities for Upward Mobility

I’m thrilled to share that this mission of fostering student and alumni success has been recognized once again by The New York Times. This week, the publication named UCI the No. 4 university in propelling low-income students into the middle and upper-middle classes post-graduation.

The ranking was based on new data from the Equality of Opportunity Project, a comprehensive study of college graduates based on millions of anonymous income tax and financial aid records. This data indicated what we in academia have known all along: Public universities often serve as a catalyst for low-income students. Among highly selective public universities in the U.S., UCI ranked No. 2 for overall mobility.

In 2015, The New York Times lauded UCI as the top university doing the most for low-income students, using data to evaluate colleges with high numbers of Pell Grant recipients, impressive graduation rates, and affordable net tuition costs for low- and middle-income students.
