Major Gift to UCI MIND

I am delighted to announce that UC Irvine has received a $23 million gift in support of the UC Irvine Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders, better known as UCI MIND, from local philanthropists Cary and Will Singleton. The funds will be used to support the construction of Ann Hutchinson Quilter Hall, UCI MIND’s future home, and to purchase state-of-the-art neuroimaging equipment to advance research and clinical applications.

For more than four decades, UC Irvine has advanced research into Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. UCI MIND unites more than 70 faculty members across 25 academic departments, connecting laboratory research with longitudinal studies, clinical trials and community engagement.

Its Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, one of only 35 such centers throughout the nation funded by the National Institute on Aging, operates through 10 collaborative cores spanning clinical research, neuropathology, biomarkers, data science, community outreach, and studies of populations including the oldest old and people with Down syndrome. This cross-disciplinary structure differentiates UC Irvine, allowing scientists to approach dementia from multiple directions and translate insights across fields.

The new technology will accelerate UCI MIND’s vital work and ultimately make lives better in Orange County, across the nation and around the world. Please join me in expressing our deepest gratitude to Cary and Will Singleton for their exceptional philanthropy and steadfast support of our mission.
