Exciting Development at UCI Health

Dear UCI Community,

I am pleased to share exciting news that will transform UC Irvine’s place as one of the nation’s top academic health systems. Today, UCI Health has entered into a formal agreement with Tenet Healthcare Corporation to acquire their regional health system, including four medical centers in Lakewood, Los Alamitos, Fountain Valley and Placentia and associated outpatient locations. Approved by the University of California Board of Regents, this is more than a step forward – it advances our commitment to expanding access to academic health care services across the region.

As Orange County's sole academic health system, UCI Health is the leading provider of advanced medicine, rooted in world-class care, clinical innovation and scientific discovery. This expansion means more interconnected medical services and unrestricted access to healthcare. This vision reflects UC Irvine's ongoing commitment to improving health in Orange County and beyond. Recent strides include expanding our outpatient care network, constructing the UCI Health – Irvine medical campus, the first phase of which will open this spring, UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Irvine and now, this new formal agreement with Tenet Healthcare.

There is still work ahead before finalizing the agreement this spring. I want to recognize the leadership of UCI Health CEO and President Chad Lefteris in guiding us steadily forward.
