Vice Chancellor Federoff Named CEO of the UC Irvine Health system

To the Anteater community:

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I announce I am appointing our vice chancellor for health affairs, Dr. Howard Federoff, as chief executive officer of the UC Irvine Health system. I am making this appointment after consultation with UC Irvine Health stakeholders and with the full approval of the University of California Board of Regents.

As CEO of UCI’s health enterprise, Dr. Federoff will be responsible for the administration of our clinical locations, UC Irvine Medical Center and the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in Orange, and UC Irvine Health’s numerous primary and specialty care outpatient centers. He also will guide the development of UCI’s expanding regional health operations and partnerships.

Dr. Federoff has done an extraordinary job providing strategic guidance on our clinical operations as interim CEO of Orange County’s only elite academic medical center. By combining this responsibility with his role as vice chancellor in overseeing our schools and programs in medicine, nursing, public health, and pharmaceutical sciences, we will ensure a vital alignment between our clinical expansion and the expansion of our academic and research missions in health.

I extend my appreciation to Professor Leslie Thompson and the entire search committee for their outstanding efforts on behalf of the search process. An interim dean for the School of Medicine will shortly be named and a national search commenced for a permanent dean.

Dr. Federoff – a nationally renowned clinical and research leader and a groundbreaking investigator for neurological disorders – joined UCI on July 1 as vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine. He previously served as executive vice president for health sciences and executive dean of the School of Medicine at Georgetown University. In his short time at UCI, Dr. Federoff has already made significant progress in advancing the mission and vision of UC Irvine Health by better serving our local community and by strategically collaborating with UC Health to serve our state.

For more information about Dr. Federoff’s appointment, please read the news release.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Federoff on his expanded role. I am confident that under his leadership, the UC Irvine Health system will continue to thrive and emerge as a national leader in healthcare delivery innovation.

Sincerely,

Chancellor Howard Gillman
