Dr. Cynthia Haq is Clinical Professor and Chair of the UCI Department of Family Medicine, and a champion for primary health care, health equity, and preparing health professionals to serve disadvantaged patients and communities. Prior to joining UCI in early 2018, she served as professor of family medicine and population health sciences at the University of Wisconsin (UW). While at UW, she served as founding director of the Global Health Institute, Training in Urban Medicine and Public Health (TRIUMPH), designed and led educational programs, and worked in rural Belleville and central Milwaukee. She has worked in rural Uganda, urban Karachi, helped establish the first family medicine residency programs in Pakistan, Uganda and Ethiopia, and served as a consultant to the World Health Organization. Dr. Haq has received numerous teaching and research awards including two Fulbright Fellowships and the AAMC national award for humanism in medicine. She received her MD degree at Indiana University and completed her residency at the University of Wisconsin.
