Theater lovers, thespians and community members gathered at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts the evening of Friday, Oct. 28, to celebrate the opening of the Robert Cohen Theatre and kick off a two-day festival in his honor. After remarks by current and former arts faculty, the chancellor, and Irvine mayor Sukhee Kang, guests were treated to Cohen's production of Waiting for Godot, a play he first staged in the 1960s. The facility, a flexible black-box theater that can be configured for a variety of productions, seats a maximum of 96, and was renamed in honor of Cohen, a founding faculty member in drama whose books on acting theory are among the most popular in the field.
